Key Points: Visit to Frieze Masters and to Welcome Institute

I had a brief encounter with the incredible video and objects show at the Wellcome Collection Genetica Automata an ongoing body of video works by artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy: https://wellcomecollection.org/exhibitions/ZAW0PxQAACcG-pX8

The God mode room was the room I had most time in and the pocket registrator was one of the most disturbing objects in the room. Eugenic practices, and the genesis of eugenics.

I moved onto the Frieze Masters show. Never been there before and probably wouldn't again!! This article about sums up Frieze as an art fair, though its not about Frieze masters! So frieze Masters is fair for ancient art, up to contemporary. The kind of galleries that exhibit their are major private galleries from the big cities in the world.

I began to go around the show and look at all the galleries that are represented. The Masters show is supposed to represent less contemporary artwork, and indeed had medieval manuscripts, paintings, abstract expressionists and most of the 20C Art movements in evidence. I began to ask the very smartly dressed gallery assistants how much for this and how much for that, they would answer immediately -examples of pricetag in the master show are Paula Rego, 650 K a drawing Frank Auerbach 75K painting drawings 575K paint drawing by Metisse 200 K Robert Motherwell 3.2 million Bridget Riley, 3 million mediaeval work after I wanna moustache €900,000 for the most expensive, what's the dinosaur which had a pricetag of £20 million. The Warhols were priced according to the celebrity that was used. So Queen Elizabeth had one of the largest price tags.

I moved on to the OtherArtFair . https://www.theotherartfair.com. This is ap . This is paid entry show, where young and up and coming artists, will exhibit their work in a small stall, pricing their work at a much more accessible tag.

A real contrast with the selling and the Arts world

50 artworks & Crit

Group crit this week, with Victoria and all MA students.A conversation with Victoria around the work of Emily gave rise the studio name "super juicy", which her work most definitely is!

In the crit session, the question of performance and my work came up, with so many students creating work that is performance based or conceptual. It seems that the part time MA students have come from a year 1 which seem to only have concentrated on this aspect of Art. The part time students challenged my work and questioned me as to Why was I here? came up..! Left me a little fuming but soon disappeared after thought it through a little. My main focus in pursuing the MA is to test my metal if you like - not having the time and energy to commit to my Art, this year I am solely concentrating on advancing my practice and broaden my understanding with painting and Fine Art and am interested in teaching at a higher level than secondary in the future.

Takeways from the session, were some interesting comments about pace and length of time spent on my paintings and how they could correspond with the length of time that the stage is that I am painting. Timing and recording a painting in its progress. ( Following this I Timelapse one of my paintings to observe the changes that it went , this is ongoing)

My work and anything inspiring....
