October 5–December 22, 2023

The exhibition at the Gallery, which is owned by larry Gagosian, An american, who owns galleries across the world, with 300 odd employees.. Richard Prince is a American artist, Living in New York and previous work. I've seen of his has been his nurse series.

How many like the way that prince works, exploring the marks in the photograph often using dot matrix zooming - abstraction and the glossiness of American culture. In the exhibition is primarily strong photos of American culture, Cowboys women landscapes. I found contact a contact sheet in particular which I thought was very fascinating and how we considered composition and balance three within his photographs and two exhibitions the second exhibition of a larger scale, photograph where the majority of the image was black and You are left with a slice of a celebrity female glossy.

Research and experimentation Practice led research

Studio Culture

Art talks:

Nyakallo Maleke from South Africa beamed in using teams, based in Johannesberg in the Bag factory artist studios. She talked us around her studio and talked us through her beautiful layered and instinctive drawings, which explored a range of line and shape, with many different medias being explored. Her presentation of her work stood out and made a great impact on me, with her drawings being hung and also being displayed at different angles. The range of textural mark making through drawing essentially and how she fond new ways to present and explore the medium were extremely thought provoking. Often using tissue paper thin paper to stitch and make gestural marks on. Opening up some possibilities perhaps with experimenting with surface and medias with print and line.

My work

Further exploring the Cavendish work, So I woke up early Weds AM at 4 with this idea about spraying over the painting that I had been sitting on for a while - I wanted to work over it. So I masked off areas and using spray created shapes over the top. Later On Thursday I continued experimenting with my painting by printing parts of the photos I took of the A1 acrylic painting on paper, onto Canvas up in the textiles department. Printing onto 2 different types of canvas, which was thin and had a limit as to how thick the canvas was that could go through the fabric printer. Seeing the work of Prince and his more abstracted photos, and Maleke's use of hanging drawings became an influence to how I was working with this fabric pieces. This would develop further, after I took motifs from cycling packaging and the dot matrix effects I had made with the risographs, turned into screen print layers, which evolved with the textile pieces.
