Key Points:

Podcast on way to work and in studio this week:

Studio Culture : Atelier day Tuesday ; Discussed our open studios, worked in printmaking with mono print and continued with my graphite/white paint Cavendish canvas.

Thursday I managed to get into the print space and begin working on subtractive mono print work - I had chosen an image, which I didn't really want to work on, as I couldn't find the one I wanted to use! As expected I think the outcome was too complicated and I should work from the image that I initially wanted to use. I will have another go at capturing the speed and blurriness another time though going through the process of monoprinting was extremely useful.

Research and experimentation: Have begun to form a clearer idea on which Art show I will concentrate on. https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/capturing-the-moment which I haven't been able to forget since I saw the show with the Guston at the TATE. It raises interesting questions as to how artists use photographs in their work - Appropriation, stealing,

My work and anything inspiring....

Had Friday and Monday in my studio working on 2 of my oil paintings. Cav 2 I am using 2 different images from video frames - which have different angles. I am finding myself more drawn to the road markings and the giro pink/blue motif which will become spray paint masked area. I have also found myself thinking a lot about the stillness of the arena before the energy and the tensioned grimacing athletes arrive. I am also finding myself more interested in the abstraction and the shapes, lines that have a certain ambiguity, due to working from several photos and video sources. The monochrome canvas work is developing nicely, with reworking and adjustments being made to the work, leading to interesting smudges / ghosting of shapes and a range of pencil marks which will I shall continue to work on for the forseable.
